“Sakhalin energy” presented a report on sustainable development for 2017


This is the ninth report of the company prepared according to the standard of the Global reporting initiative in sustainable development (Global Reporting Initiative, or GRI). The application of this standard allows the company to publish meaningful to stakeholders information about the manufacturing, commercial, environmental and social activities and its effectiveness.

In accordance with GRI standards and taking into account the views of interested parties, “Sakhalin energy” pays great attention to the values and principles of the company management systems, health, safety, environment, human rights and social investment.

Significant place in the report is given to strategically important issues for the company, including personnel management and development, organization of production, ensuring environmental and industrial safety, conservation of biodiversity. Among the most important topics is the interaction with all stakeholders, as well as the company’s contribution to sustainable development in Sakhalin region.

A high level of quality of the report, said Yelena Feoktistova, managing Director, corporate responsibility, sustainable development and social entrepreneurship of the Russian Union of Industrialists and entrepreneurs. She stressed that the company has integrated sustainable development principles, goals and objectives of the company relate to the objectives of sustainable development adopted by the United Nations.

For the third consecutive year the company produces thematic report. In 2017, his main theme was human rights. Respect for the individual, strict observance of his rights – fundamental principles of business management of the company “Sakhalin energy”. The company strives to meet the highest standards based on the legislation of the Russian Federation and international norms, including the Universal Declaration of human rights, the principles of the UN Global compact and others. Special attention is paid in the report to achieve the 17 goals of sustainable development of the United Nations.

“Sakhalin energy” is not the first time the report on the done work, demonstrating openness and transparency in the disclosure of information about its activities”, ‒ said Vladimir Zorin, a member of the Presidium of the Council under the RF President on interethnic relations. He also noted the responsible attitude of the company towards the issues of environmental protection, interaction with stakeholders, and especially to preserve and promote indigenous languages.

At the report presentation was attended by representatives of scientific and expert community, Federal legislative and Executive authorities, big business, indigenous peoples of the North, non-profit organizations, other members of the public and the media.

The report has successfully passed the procedure of public certication in the Council on nonfinancial reporting of the Russian Union of Industrialists and entrepreneurs (RSPP).
