In Phenchhane started the XII Paralympic winter games



At the Olympic stadium Pehchana solemn opening ceremony of the XII winter Paralimpiyskikh games, reports TASS. Paralympic games in 2018 will take part record number of Paralympic athletes – 567 athletes from 49 countries. Russia will be represented by 30 Paraclete, who will perform under a neutral flag.

At the Paralympics in 2018 will be played 80 sets of awards in 6 sports. Competitions will be held in three categories – for the blind and visually impaired athletes, athletes with amputated limbs, as well as among athletes with lesions of the musculoskeletal system, which use various modifications of wheelchairs (sled).

The greatest number of awards will be played in the ski – 30. Skiers will compete in downhill, slalom, giant slalom, slalom-super-g and combination. At this tournament in the debut of para-snowboarding, which will be played 10 sets of medals in the slalom and the Board cross event.

Skiers will compete in the race at 7.5, 10, 12, 15 and 20 km and also sprint mixed open relay. Biathletes will compete for the medals in the race at 7.5, 12.5, and 15 km for men and 6, 10 and 12.5 km for women.

Men’s teams will participate in tournament on the sledge hockey and Curling teams in wheelchairs will be presented to both men and women.

The Paralympic games 2018 will be held in Phenchhane from 9 to 18 March. The closing ceremony of the Games will be held on March 18 at the Olympic stadium Pehchana.

Previously, we reported that Russian Paralympic athletes are allowed to participate in the Paralympic winter games in 2018, which will be held in South Korea’s Pyeongchang, as a neutral athletes. Russians will be able to participate in ski racing, biathlon, Alpine skiing, snowboarding and Curling.

Member of the Executive Committee of the RCC Mikhail Terentiev said the decision of the International Paralympic Committee on the admission of Russian paracletos to participate in the Games as a neutral athletes compromise. Because, as we wrote earlier, the Executive Committee of the IPC did not give consent to the participation of Russian athletes in the winter Paralympics in 2018. This decision was made on the basis of the report of Richard McLaren, which reported on the manipulation of doping samples, in opinion of experts of the world anti-doping Committee (WADA) took place during the Olympics and Paralympics of 2014 in Sochi.
