The Executive Committee of the International Paralympic Committee upheld the suspension of the Russian Paralympic Committee, which automatically excludes the participation of the Russian team at the Paralympics, which will be held in March 2018 in South Korea’s Pyeongchang. The final decision about the participation of Russian athletes in the Paralympic games will be made in January, the BBC reports.
IPC President Andrew Parsons said that the Russian authorities have not presented evidence and explanations, refuting the conclusions of the report of the Commission of the world anti-doping Agency (WADA) under the leadership of Richard McLaren, which reported on the use of doping in Russian sports. Thus a press-the service the IPC notes that the Russian Paralympians have preserved the opportunity to take part in the qualifying competitions for the Paralympics.
To membership of the PKK in the international Paralympic movement was restored and, accordingly, the Russian team had the opportunity to take part in the Paralympics, international Paralympic Committee named five conditions:
- Statute of the RCC must be approved by the Department of IASC membership in the organization.
- RCC must comply with all the budgetary conditions of recovery in the IPC.
- The Ministry of sports of the Russian Federation should confirm that the Russian legislation has been amended, allowing to suspend and support staff of athletes.
- Russian anti-doping Agency (RUSADA) must be fully reinstated by the Commission, the world anti-doping Agency (WADA).
- The Russian side should provide an official response with specific and adequate review to the findings of the Commission of McLaren.
Member of the Executive Committee of the Russian Paralympic Committee Mikhail Terentiev, commenting on these requirements, stated that the IPC did not appreciate the efforts of the RCC focused on his recovery in the international Paralympic movement. “When I see such solutions already understand – maybe PKR should somehow harder to define its position, – said Terentyev, – maybe then there will be some change with respect to the IPC to us.”
Previously, we reported that the Executive Committee of the International Paralympic Committee agreed to the participation of the Russian paracletos in the qualifying tournaments for the winter Paralympics in 2018, which will be held in Korean Pyeongchang. This decision was made on the basis of the report of Richard McLaren, which reported on the manipulation of doping samples, in opinion of experts of the world anti-doping Committee (WADA) took place during the Olympics and Paralympics of 2014 in Sochi.
We also wrote about the fact that Russian Paralympic athletes are allowed to participate in the qualifying competitions for the Paralympics in 2018 in four sports, but they will act as a neutral athletes. Russians will be able to take part in competitions in biathlon, cross-country skiing, Alpine skiing and snowboarding.
