The company has shared the results achieved for the year 2016 for 10 socially significant obligations, including the search of owners for homeless animals, educate children on responsible pet ownership, leadership in scientific research in the field of animal health and others.
At the report presentation was attended by experts who discussed the topical problems of modern society in the context of Pets. In particular, a well-known futurist, CEO of The Future Agency Gerd Leonhard noted the importance of maintaining emotional ties with Pets in the modern world with the rapid pace of technology development and artificial intelligence:
“Modern technologies help us to create a better future through automation of many processes. But what distinguishes us from machines and artificial intelligence is our humanity, relationships with other people and animals. Emotional connections with Pets helps us to remain human beings to cultivate empathy and compassion.”
With the launch of a social initiative “Purina in society,” in 6 European countries by 2016, was created in partnership with charitable organizations to implement projects aimed at finding homes for animals from shelters. So, at the expense of such partnerships only in Russia and the CIS in 2016, more than 560 homeless cats and dogs find their families.
“In the Russian culture to take animals from the shelter is still in the formative stage, whereas in Europe and America, it is the current practice. One of the important directions of work for us now is the removal of barriers perception of our citizens. We explain and show that cats and dogs from shelters such as affectionate and loving as purebred animals from the kennels, they want to live in the family and ready for this”, – commented Svetlana Safonov, the acting Director of the Fund “Giving Hope”.
In educational programs Purina about responsible treatment of animals in 2016, took part more than 198 thousand children across Europe. It is expected that by 2023 that number will reach 2 million. Including Russia in 2016 around 600 pupils of correctional schools, colleges, and state psychiatric institutions took part in the rehabilitation and educational program “On the way with the huskies” that teaches children to communicate with dogs, the development of empathy and social skills.
The event was also announced a prize for the most significant social project, designed to make life better for animals and the people who love them.
