Mexico City 2017: Wonsang Cho vs. Inkook Lee

South Korea’s Wonsang Cho (L) and Inkook Lee will battle it out for butterfly and freestyle gold

A South Korean showdown is expected at the Mexico City 2017 World Para Swimming Championships as Wonsang Cho and Inkook Lee go head-to-head in the men’s 100m butterfly S14 and 200m freestyle S14.

The first time they swam against each other at a major competition was in the 200m freestyle S14 at the 2013 World Championships in Montreal, Canada, with Cho claiming bronze and Lee finishing in sixth position.

They again faced-off in the heats of the 100m backstroke S14 at Glasgow 2015. While Cho was eliminated, Lee went on to seal silver. Both advanced to the final of the 200m freestyle S14; Cho ended fifth and Lee eighth.

They met each other at a Paralympic Games for the first time in Rio, in 2016, in both the 200m freestyle S14 and the 200m individual medley SM14.

Cho left the Brazilian without a medal while Lee won his maiden gold in the 100m backstroke S14, an achievement that will surely give him further motivation ahead of this year’s clash in Mexico City.
