Venezuela, Panama still undefeated at 2017 Bolivarian Games

SANTA MARTA, Colombia — With only one day remaining in the round robin, Venezuela and Panama remain undefeated in the Softball competition of the Bolivarian Games, with no runs against. Today’s games will decide the positions for the playoff.

Venezuela beat Peru 7-0 and Colombia 3-0, and remains at the top of the standings with three wins in as many games. In its first match of the day, Venezuela defeated Peru by 7-0 in five innings, with a good performance by Alondra Pérez from the circle. On offense, Geraldine Puertas led the team with three RBIs with two hits, while Yuruby Alicart and Denise Fuenmayor had two hits and scored twice. Maddison Pacione received the loss for Peru.

In the second game of the day and before a packed stadium in the Bolivarian Sports Park, the Venezuelans played a fundamental game to secure one of the first two places of the round robin beating Colombia by 3-0. Supported by a stellar outing by Anyibel Ramírez (the pitcher struck out eight and allowed only three), and with two RBI by Fuenmayor, Venezuela won the match against the locals. Kety Milian was charged with the loss for Colombia, pitching the complete game.

Panama defeated Bolivia by 8-0 and also remains unbeaten in the event with two wins. Panama claimed the win without complications, with a victory by Leira Delgado. In the final day of the round robin, Panama will face a doubleheader against Venezuela and Colombia, and if they win both games, they will take first place in the round robin.

In the last game of the day, Colombia beat Bolivia by 10-0.

Today will be the last three games of the round robin. In the first hour, Bolivia and Peru will compete the fourth and last playoff spot at stake. Both teams arrive to this instance with three losses. After that the two unbeaten, Venezuela and Panama, will take the diamond; and finally, the Panamanians will close the round robin against Colombia. The last two matches will define the first three positions of the round robin.
