The Dresner Foundation in West Bloomfield, Michigan, has announced the appointment of VIRGINIA ROMANO as its new executive director. Romano joined the foundation in 2014 and has since served as the managing director of programs. The foundation also announced that board member KEVIN FURLONG will serve as chair as well as the foundation’s chief financial officer.
The Blandin Foundation in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, has announced that DANIEL LEMM will join the foundation as director of finance on November 13. In that role, will oversee the foundation’s overall financial management and will join its senior leadership team. Lemm previously served in accounting and finance at the Minneapolis-based McKnight Foundation and Native Americans in Philanthropy, and served as finance director for the Lower Sioux Community in Morton, Minnesota.
The Oakland-based Kenneth Rainin Foundation has announced the promotion of AMANDA FLORES-WITTE to the position of communications director, TERI GARDINER to the position of communications officer, and MIA DeJESUS to the position of grants officer. Prior to joining the foundation, Flores-Witte was the senior director of communications and marketing at a managed care health plan serving low-income families and, prior to that, worked at the Boston Foundation’s Persistent Poverty Project and held program positions at the Greater Worcester Community Foundation, the James Irvine Foundation, and the Charles Schwab Corporation Foundation. Gardiner has served as a communications director for the Richmond Art Center and the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, worked as a graphic designer in a variety of studios, and co-founded Ramon’s Tailor, an alternative arts space in the Tenderloin District. Prior to joining the foundation, DeJesus worked at the Berkeley Research Group as an administrative assistant.
The California Wellness Foundation in Los Angeles has announced the election of TERENCE MULLIGAN, ANGELICA SALAS, and GERI YANG-JOHNSON to its board of directors. Mulligan has led the Napa Valley Community Foundation as president for the last thirteen years, worked as the director of outreach for the Peninsula Community Foundation, and previously held several positions at companies in San Francisco and Washington D.C. related to business development, market research, and international trade and economic policy issues. Salas has served as executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles for eighteen years and, prior to that, served in administrative and programmatic positions at CHIRLA for four years. As vice president of community relations for Wells Fargo, Yang-Johnson manages community development investments in central California aimed at improving the lives of low- and moderate-income families. Previously, she was a program officer for Fresno Regional Foundation and a project and case manager for Fresno Center for New Americans, providing case management and managing programs that serve refugees.
The Global Fund for Children (GFC) in Washington, D.C., has selected JOHN HECKLINGER to serve as its new president and chief executive officer, effective November 6. Hecklinger comes to GFC after twelve years at GlobalGiving, where he served served as GG’s business development director and was instrumental in developing what is now the world’s largest global crowdfunding community.
San Francisco-based Earthjustice, one of the nation’s leading environmental law firms, has announced that TRIP VAN NOPPEN has decided to step down as president by the end of 2018. Van Noppen has served as the organization’s president since 2008 and, prior to that time, served as its vice president of litigation. During his decade as president, the organization opened offices in New York, Philadelphia, Miami, Los Angeles, and Anchorage and expanded its international work, while its staff grew from a hundred and forty to more than three hundred, including over a hundred and twenty litigators. Van Noppen will continue to serve as president as the organization’s board of trustees undertakes a search for his successor with his guidance and assistance, as well as that of other senior staff members.
